6 Things to Do in Denton County This Weekend: September 11–13, 2026

September 11–13 is a particularly good weekend for local events. Denton↗ has several of its bigger annual events happening at the same time, Flower Mound has a couple of easy family options, and there's something happening just about every day of the weekend.
Whether you're looking for live music, classic cars, something the kids can actually participate in, or just an excuse to get out of the house, here are six things worth knowing about around Denton County this weekend.
1. Denton Arts & Jazz Festival
Where: North Texas Fairgrounds, 2217 N. Carroll Blvd., Denton
When: Friday, September 11, 3–11 PM; Saturday, September 12, 10 AM–11 PM; Sunday, September 13, 11 AM–9 PM
Admission: Free
If you only pick one thing from this list, the Denton Arts & Jazz Festival is probably it.
One of Denton's signature annual events takes over the North Texas Fairgrounds for three days with five outdoor stages featuring jazz, blues and cross-cultural music. You'll also find artists, makers, food and activities specifically for kids.
This is one of those events where you can stop by for a couple of hours or turn it into most of your Saturday. And because admission is free, it's an especially easy recommendation for families.
Why I'd go: This is the biggest all-around event of the weekend. Music, art, food and something for the kids without needing to spend much just to get through the gate.
2. Arts & Autos
Where: Downtown Denton
When: Friday kickoff, 6–9 PM; Saturday, 9 AM–3 PM
Admission: Free
Downtown Denton gets taken over by classic cars, hot rods, trucks, art, vendors and live music for the annual Arts & Autos event.
The weekend actually starts Friday evening with Art Car Alley, which showcases some of the more imaginative and unusual customized vehicles. The main event happens Saturday with the car show and chalk art competition around downtown.
If you have a kid who points out every cool car they see on the road, this is probably the easiest pick on the list.
Why I'd go: Cars for the kids, art and downtown Denton for the adults. Grab breakfast or lunch around the Square and make a morning out of it.
3. Dog Days of Denton
Where: Civic Center Pool, 515 N. Bell Ave., Denton
When: Saturday, September 12, 9 AM–2 PM
Admission: Free
Dog people, this one's for you.
The 33rd Annual Dog Days of Denton is a free community event built around dogs and the people who love them. Expect vendors, local nonprofits, contests and plenty of four-legged attendees throughout the morning.
There's also an end-of-season opportunity for dogs to get into the Civic Center Pool. A separate V.I.Paw ticket is required for dogs entering the pool.
Even better, proceeds from Dog Days benefit the Lily Cantu Inclusive Playground at North Lakes Park.
Why I'd go: If your kids love dogs, you probably don't need much more convincing than "a park full of dogs."
4. Movie in the Park: How to Train Your Dragon
Where: Heritage Park, 600 Spinks Rd., Flower Mound
When: Friday, September 11, movie begins at 7:30 PM
Admission: Free
This might be the easiest Friday-night plan on the list.
Flower Mound's Movies in the Park series continues Friday with the live-action version of How to Train Your Dragon at Heritage Park.
Bring lawn chairs or a blanket, find a spot on the lawn and settle in for the movie under the nighttime sky. Food trucks will also be on site if you'd rather make dinner part of the outing.
You can arrive early to grab a good spot before the movie starts at 7:30.
Why I'd go: Very little planning required. Grab the kids, a blanket and some snacks, and Friday night is handled.
5. Community Field Day & Summer Social
Where: Heritage Park, 600 Spinks Rd., Flower Mound
When: Saturday, September 12, 9 AM–1 PM
If your kids would rather participate in something than walk around another festival, put this one on the list.
Flower Mound's Community Field Day & Summer Social includes classic field-day games, try-a-sport stations, pop-up fitness classes, a Park & Play area, hands-on activities, nature activities, a DJ and food trucks.
There's also a free Pilates class beginning at 9 AM for anyone who wants to bring a yoga mat.
Registration is encouraged to help organizers plan, but the Town of Flower Mound says families can also decide to stop by at the last minute.
Why I'd go: It's active. The kids actually get to run around, compete and try things instead of hearing you say, "Don't touch that," for three hours.
6. Argyle Farmers Market
Where: 409 Hwy 377, Argyle
When: Saturday morning
For something a little closer to home and considerably more low-key, make a stop at the Argyle Farmers Market.
It isn't the giant festival option on this week's list, and that's sort of the point. It's an easy way to get out Saturday morning, shop local and stay around Argyle before deciding whether you want to venture toward one of the bigger events happening elsewhere in Denton County.
Why I'd go: Sometimes you don't need an elaborate Saturday itinerary. Coffee, a local market and being home before lunch sounds pretty good too.
Worth the Drive: FAN EXPO Dallas
Where: Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, Dallas
When: Friday, September 11, 4–9 PM; Saturday, September 12, 10 AM–7 PM; Sunday, September 13, 10 AM–5 PM
This one obviously isn't in Denton County, so consider it this week's honorable mention.
If your house has a serious superhero, Star Wars, anime, gaming, cosplay or comic fan, FAN EXPO Dallas might justify the drive south.
The three-day convention brings together celebrity guests, comic creators, cosplay, panels, photo opportunities, autograph sessions and a massive show floor. Family passes and children's admission are available as well.
Why I'd go: It's not an everyday outing, which is exactly why it makes the list. If your kids are really into this world, they'll probably remember this one longer than another Saturday at the park.
What Are You Doing This Weekend?
That's a pretty stacked weekend for Denton County.
My pick would be the Denton Arts & Jazz Festival if you're looking for the biggest all-around event. Arts & Autos would be a close second, especially if you're already planning to spend some time around Downtown Denton.
If you'd rather avoid the biggest crowds, the Argyle Farmers Market↗ or Friday night's movie at Heritage Park are much easier outings.
