Looking for something to do around Denton County this weekend?

I did the digging so you don’t have to. This weekend has a little bit of everything, including one of Lewisville’s biggest annual events, the opening weekend of a local pumpkin patch, monster trucks, an outdoor movie, the Denton Community Market and UNT football.

Here are six things worth checking out around Denton County September 25–27.

1. Lewisville Western Days

Where: Old Town Lewisville
When: Friday, Sept. 25, 4–11:30 PM and Saturday, Sept. 26, noon–11:30 PM

Western Days takes over Old Town Lewisville for two days with live music, food, vendors and plenty for families to do.

Kid Kountry, a touch-a-truck area, Western Village, lucha libre wrestling and the World Tamale Eating Contest are all part of this year’s festival.

If you only pick one event from this list, this is probably the one. There’s enough going on that you can make an entire afternoon or evening out of it.

Admission is free before 6 PM both days, and kids 12 and younger receive free admission throughout the festival.

2. Cobbins Family Pumpkin Patch Opening Weekend

Where: 1926 Milam Rd. E., Sanger
When: Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26–27, 10 AM–7 PM

Pumpkin patch season officially starts this weekend in Denton County.

Cobbins Family Pumpkin Patch opens for its 2026 season with a Fall Festival and Vendor Market. Along with the pumpkins, families can find a hay maze, bounce houses, playground, toddler area, lawn games, sensory play areas, photo spots and plenty of room for kids to run around.

The vendor market runs from 10 AM–2 PM during opening weekend, and admission to the patch is free from 10 AM–noon. Regular admission applies afterward.

This is probably my favorite pick this weekend if you have younger kids and want to officially kick off fall.

3. Monster Truck Wars

Where: North Texas Fairgrounds, 2217 N. Carroll Blvd., Denton
When: Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26–27

For the kid who would choose monster trucks over a pumpkin patch every single time, this one's for you.

Monster Truck Wars comes to the North Texas Fairgrounds this weekend with shows scheduled throughout Saturday and Sunday.

Expect giant trucks, plenty of noise and a completely different option from the festivals and markets happening around the county this weekend.

This is a ticketed event, so I would check current showtimes and ticket availability before heading over.

4. Movie in the Park: Wicked: For Good

When: Friday, Sept. 25 at 7:30 PM

Sometimes the easiest weekend plan is the best one.

Flower Mound's Movie in the Park series wraps up September with Wicked: For Good at Heritage Park.

Bring a blanket or lawn chairs and grab a spot on the lawn. Food trucks will be available, and you can arrive before the 7:30 PM start time to eat and let the kids burn off some energy at the park.

The movie is free to attend.

5. Denton Community Market

Where: Denton County Historical Park, 317 W. Mulberry St., Denton
When: Saturday, Sept. 26, 9 AM–1 PM

If you want something a little slower Saturday morning, head toward Downtown Denton.

The Denton Community Market is a producer-only farmers and art market featuring local farms, makers, artists, food vendors, food trucks and live music.

It's one of those easy outings where you can grab coffee or breakfast, walk around the market and then head over to the Square afterward.

Admission is free.

6. UNT Football: North Texas vs. Houston Christian

When: Saturday, Sept. 26 at 6:30 PM

UNT football is at home Saturday night, and this week's game lines up with the university's Family Weekend.

North Texas hosts Houston Christian at DATCU Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 PM.

Even if you're not a die-hard college football fan, a UNT game can make for a fun local Saturday night. Get there early, walk around the tailgates and campus activities, then head into the stadium for the game.

This is a ticketed event.

My Pick This Weekend

Western Days gets my pick this week.

It's hard to beat the amount of stuff happening in Old Town Lewisville, especially with free admission before 6 PM.

But if you're ready for fall, Cobbins opening weekend would be a close second. Pumpkin patches opening around Denton County is usually my unofficial sign that we've finally made it through another Texas summer.
